Cherub Series meets X-men mutants

Imposter

by Susanne Winnacker

Imposter - susanne Winnacker

Tessa is a Variant, able to absorb the DNA of anyone she touches and mimic their appearance. Shunned by her family, she’s spent the last two years training with the Forces with Extraordinary Abilities, a secret branch of the FBI. When a serial killer rocks a small town in Oregon, Tessa is given a mission: she must impersonate Madison, a local teen, to find the killer before he strikes again.

If you love the CHERUB series and are fans of the mutants in X-Men, then you will love this new thriller. It has lots of twists and turns and has you saying to Tessa, ‘Don’t go in there! What are you thinking?’

This was one book I could not put down until I read every last word.

5/5 rating.

MEET A NEW SUPERHERO

Marvin Beederman

This series for ages 7 and up, published by Henry Holt Books for Young Readers, has it all: hilarious story lines, amazing classic-comic-inspired illustrations, fearless new superheroes, and SNACKS!

Melvin Beederman is a pretty good superhero, even though it always takes him five or six tries to get launched and flying. His weakness (every superhero has one) is bologna, which makes it hard to go into a deli. Still, Melvin manages to keep the city of Los Angeles free of nasty villains—once he’s finally airborne.

Imagine getting a superpower at 4:23 pm every February 29th!

Almost super

Savvy meets The Incredibles in this fresh, funny middle-grade debut about two brothers in a family of superheroes who must find a way to be heroic despite receiving powers that are total duds.

Each leap year, on February 29th, at 4:23 p.m., every member of the Bailey family over the age of twelve gets a superpower. No one knows why, and no one questions it. All the Baileys know is that it’s their duty to protect the world from those evil, supervillainous Johnsons.

Today, Rafter Bailey and his brother Benny are finally going to get their superpowers. Benny wants to be a speedy, and Rafter hopes he gets super strength so he can save the day just like his grandfather. But when their powers arrive, they are, well, duds. Rafter can light matches on polyester, and Benny can turn his innie belly button into an outie.

Suddenly Rafter and Benny’s world is turned upside down. Especially when they realize that Juanita Johnson, the villain in Rafter’s algebra class, thinks that her family are the superheroes and the Baileys are the villains.

What if everything Rafter thought he knew about superheroes turns out to be a lie? He may not have an awesome power, but with the help of Benny and an unexpected friend, he could just be almost super.

Join the Ghost Club and help Angeline and Edgar catch ghosts

Angeline and Edgar might be kids, but they’re two of Ghost Club’s youngest ghost-catchers. Got a problem with a ghost, poltergeist or ghoul? Can’t sleep because of all the rattling chains and cackling laughter? Angeline and Edgar are the experts to call.

So it’s entirely logical that when new kid Dylan joins Ghost Club, Angeline and Edgar are the perfect candidates to introduce him to everything he needs to know, from which ghost-catching gadget will do the trick to when to run like crazy to avoid being splattered with ectoplasm.

The trouble is, Dylan’s not quite sure he wants to be a ghost-catcher…

Awesome new series – The Killables by Gemma Malley

The killables - Gemma Malley        The disappearances - Gemma Malley

What an awesome new series by Gemma Malley (@gemmamalley)

I can’t wait to start reading and it was a toss up about shouting out about it or just hiding away and starting at page one…but I just had to share!

Everyone accepted that people were different physically. But inside? Inside, they were different too. You just had to know how to tell, what to look for.

Evil has been eradicated. The City has been established. And citizens may only enter after having the ‘evil’ part of their brain removed. They are labelled on The System according to how ‘good’ they are. If they show signs of the evil emerging, they are labelled a K, but no one knows quite what that means. Only that they disappear, never to be seen again…

Book to Movie… Break Out the Popcorn!!!

It is great when one of our favourite books comes out on the big screen. We get to sit and become immersed in the author’s imagination all over again.

Better still, for our reluctant readers who would love to be able to immerse themselves in the wonderful worlds of Hogwarts, Narnia, the future, outer space or fight dragons, demons and basically save the world…this is a great way to get them hooked. Perhaps they will pick up the second book in the series.
